Foods That Start with M

Hey fellas! Are you ready for the challenge? I’m taking this new challenge of naming foods that start with m and some of their recipes. After thinking a lot, I have decided to give on the list and my favorite recipes of M foods. Well, not me alone; my daughter has helped me out a lot for choosing. 

Here is a list of what food starts with m, I know. I have listed meals, snacks, vegetables, fruits, drinks, etc. The names and descriptions are below.

Macadamia Nuts

These nuts might be new for you as they generally grow in tropical regions, and it is worth it. The creamy texture and the buttery flavor of these nuts are heavenly. You can, and you should eat them raw; well, you can cook them as well. As a matter of fact, these special nuts are calorie-dense, so be careful not to over-consume them. However, these nuts are also packed with healthy fats and various types of minerals. You will also find dietary fiber and thiamin in an ample amount.

Mackerel

Mackerel is an oily fish. Compared to other white leaner fish, mackerel contains many healthy fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids. As a matter of fact, King mackerel contains a lot of mercury, a trace element, than the regular ones. Do try to avoid them.

However, the regular ones have ample Vitamin B6, riboflavin, magnesium, and a lot. You can consume them any way you fancy, Though I would suggest, go for grilling and side them with lots of colorful veggies. You’ll love it.

Maitake Mushroom

Maitake mushrooms are one of the popular amongst the others. Their earthy flavor can be infused with butter. This maitake is actually a type of adaptogenic plant. Adaptogen is a chemical compound that aids the body in fighting against mental sickness.

This compound can also regulate our body system to close in a balanced way. So, maitake mushrooms are medicine before food. Some studies claim that maitake can prevent various types of cancer and significantly impact our overall immunity.

Meatball

Meatballs are another form of ground meat, prepared with other substances like chopped shallot, fresh herbs, breadcrumbs, cheese, etc. Meatballs can be equipped with any type of meat and can be cooked into literally any method, such as baking, smoking, frying, braising, steaming, etc. As it contains 197 calories per 100 g, so diabetic patients shouldn’t enjoy only meatballs in their daily diet; consume some steamed vegetables or spaghetti that will help them not to stay hungry with proper diet.

Meatloaf

Meatloaf is a dish made of finely ground meat that has been blended with other substances and formed into the shape of a loaf, then thoroughly baked or smoked, grilled. The most popular type of meatloaf is with ground beef. But there are plenty of options available like lamb meatloaf, pork meatloaf, veal meatloaf, venison meatloaf, poultry meatloaf, seafood meatloaf, etc. It can be easily added to your daily diet, as it has only 149 calories per 100 grams.

Medlar

Medlar fruits are about the size of a tomato. They are golden-brown; however, wait till they get browned. It gets soft when they are browned. Now, it’s time to consume them. They have a citrusy-taste that is sweet. This fruit is famous for its creamy texture. Naturally, they grow in clusters, and they have a color variation.

These low-calorie fruits contain various types of nutrients. You will find Vitamin B complex to manganese. Medlars are also a good source of phenolic compounds that offers plenty of benefits for your health.

Melon

Now here is an m food that has a pretty big family. This sweet and round-shaped fruit has a very delicious and nutritious pulp; well, lots of seeds are a bonus item. Africa originated melons are now grown worldwide. Their unique varieties have made them popular enough, such as cantaloupe, snap melon, musk melon, watermelon, and quite some.

All of them are full of nutrients. These melons play a significant role in regulating blood pressure as they all have low sodium content. They also contain folate that helps in various ways to maintain your bone health.

Mexican pizza

Mexican Pizza! Mexican Pizza! Nothing beats them as main dishes or meals that start with m. So, here no words anymore. Just cook with me taco bell style (I think mine is better) Mexican pizza as follows. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 package or 8-inch of flour tortillas
  • 10 ounce of enchilada sauce
  • 2 lbs of ground beef 
  • 8 ounces of taco seasoning
  • 15 ounces of refried beans
  • 8 ounces of Mexican blend cheese 
  • 2 stacks of green onions, finely chopped 
  • ¼ cup of diced tomato
  • 1/8 cup of diced green chilies 

Directions for preparing step by step: 

Step 1: At first, prepare the taco meat as the package direction says. 

Step 2: Let the refried beans warm for some time. 

Step 3: Heat a little amount of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in the small saucepan to medium heat (375 degrees F). 

Step 4: Now, add the whole flour tortilla at the temperature of 375 degrees F just for 45 seconds, or max 1 minute. They will look golden brown by this time. 

Step 5: Then, drain on the tissue papers or paper towels. 

Step 6: Place a light (If you have more, make it thick. It tastes better) layer of taco meat on the top of the tortilla. 

Step 7: In the second layer, top with heated beans. 

Step 8: Now, put another tortilla on top of the bean layer. 

Step 9: Pour the red taco sauce on the top of the second tortilla. 

Step 10: Sprinkle the diced tomatoes and green chilies on the top of the taco sauce. 

Step 11: Generously top with Mexican cheese blend. 

Step 12: Finally, sprinkle a few finely chopped green onions. 

Step 13: The topping is done. Now, place the pizza on a cookie sheet, then bake in the oven until the cheese is completely melted. 

The cheese is melted and bubbly, cut into fourths and enjoy immediately. But there is a hassle, you must not consume it frequently, as it has 530 calories from the recipe of taco bell.

Milk

Milk is the only type of beverage that everyone can consume without any doubt. Milk is filled with nutrients like Selenium, Potassium, Calcium, Riboflavin, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, etc. It helps reduce muscle loss with nine essential amino acids (mostly age-related) and upholds muscle repair after a workout. Milk, along with dairy products, counteract osteoporosis and lessen the risk of fractures, muscle pulp, etc.

Millet

Millet is a type of healthy grain. It is a staple in certain regions. They have multiple varieties and multiple ways to consume them. This gluten-free and high fiber content grain has a growing popularity. These grains also contain selenium, folic acids, phosphorus, and a lot of nutrients. As millet is a starchy grain, it can provide a lot of calcium than any other cereal. It is also rich in antioxidants that can regulate your cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Mint

Mint is an herb with thousands of benefits. It is vastly used in mint-flavored gum, candy, toothpaste, cosmetics, etc. Also, like medicine, this helps bring about gastrointestinal complications. Mint plants include the specific antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory agent called rosmarinic acid, which reduces asthma and allergic problems. We all know mint is vastly used for cold, cough, etc., common diseases. But menthol oil isn’t healthy for children, and you must not be using any menthol products during pregnancy.

Mocha

Mocha, mochaccino, mochaccino, is the name of a highly rich chocolate flavored latte that is prepared on espresso and hot milk along with the chocolate syrup. It has different flavors on the basis of regions. It has several benefits that will cheer you up every time you have it.

But if you have OBCT, it’s better not to take them frequently. It might help out your focus and lessen your anxiety, apprehension. It contains 360 calories per cup of mocha. So, just to immerse into the taste, it’s good but not regularly. 

Mountain Apple (Makopa)

What’s in your mind when someone says to tell fruits starting with m. The first thing that pops into our minds is “mango.” But, that’s not my preference. Because I have always wanted to try something unique. I’m sure some of you haven’t heard of Makopa or mountain apple. Makeup is quite unpopular but if you can eat it in the right way, then trust me! You won’t find anything better than it. Let’s jump to the recipe. 

Ingredients:

  • 6 or 8 makopa (green and pink)
  • 4 tablespoons of hibiscus jam or reselle jam
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) or sunflower oil. 1 pinch of finely dried rosemary
  • 1 pinch of finely dried tarragon
  • 1 pinch of finely dried thyme
  • bit of finely dried sage
  • 2 teaspoon of lime juice, or juice of a small lime 
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon of finely ground black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup of thinly and finely sliced scallion, to garnish

Directions for preparing step by step: 

Step 1: First of all, you need to learn how to cut makopa entirely. So, to do that, cut off the top of a makopa. Then scoop the pith out at the center. 

Step 2: Now, cut the juicy flesh of makopa into whatsoever is your preferred size. 

Step 3: Take a large bowl and mix up hibiscus jam, extra virgin olive oil, dried rosemary, dried tarragon, dried thyme, lime juice, kosher salt, black pepper finely so that the flavors are completely balanced. 

Step 4: In another bowl, place the makopa slices, then toss with half of the prepared dressing. 

Step 5: Cover with a plastic wrap and let the salad chill in the fridge. 

Step 6: Whenever you want to serve, drizzle the rest of the prepared dressing over makopa salad and garnish finely with scallion slivers. 

I highly recommend you this makopa salad. This is really tasty with a balanced texture. Whenever I buy makopa, I prepare this at home just within few minutes. And obviously, they are rich in dietary fiber, vitamin A and C. The fruit category of food with m is completed with a fine recipe. 

Mozzarella

Mozarella is the most famous Italian cheese and is known by all-aged people, right? This soft and white cheese is traditionally made from the Italian water buffalo milk. This milk has a high moisture content. Fun fact, mozzarella isn’t aged like most other cheeses. In fact, it is consumed fresh. All of the cheeses, mozzarella contain the lowest sodium count.

It also contains some healthy microbes that act as probiotics. Now, these probiotics here can help you to fight against infections. They can also aid in strengthening your immune systems.

Mulberry

You can say mulberries are distinct cousins of blackberries even though mulberries are quite large than blackberries. Fun fact, mulberries were cultivated first for the leaves. It was a source of extreme nutrition for the silkworms. Now, these berries come in different colors as well. You can find red, black or sometimes even white. You will see these berries as canned items. You can also eat them by drying them like raisins.

Though they are famous for the sweet flavor, they also contain various nutrients that you might want to know about. Fresh mulberries contain a considerable amount of Vitamin C. Also, a plant compound named anthocyanin can be found plentiful in mulberries. This compound can be really beneficial against various types of heart diseases.
