How to Make Palomilla Steak Sandwich?

In this first recipe, I will prepare them in the traditional Cuban style, over a skillet or pan. This process gives a smoky crisp that using grills can’t make. Let’s proceed to the ingredients list and directions for making.

Ingredients we Need:

1 lb of beef sirloin steaks (1/4 inch thick and counts 4)

2 tbsp. of lemon juice

1 tbsp of minced garlic

4 Cuban rolls, split

¼ cup of onion, thinly sliced

1 tbsp. of chopped fresh parsley

1 tbsp. of butter, finely melted

1/4 cup of KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing, divided

Methods of Preparing Cuban Beef Sandwich Step by Step:

Step 1: Take out a small bowl and add 2 tbsp of Italian dressing, 2 tbsp of lemon juice and 1 tbsp of minced garlic. Mix finely and set aside.

Step 2: Place the steaks in a shallow dish and pour the dressing mixture. Coat evenly on both sides.

Step 3: Marinate the steaks by placing them in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Step 4: Take out a large skillet and add the remaining dressing over medium-high heat.

Step 5: Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and gently place the steaks on the skillet. Cook for 3 minutes each side or until done. Add max 2 at one time.

Step 6: When done, remove from heat and cover to keep the steaks warm.

Step 7: Now, add ¼ cup of sliced onion in that skillet and cook for 5 minutes on medium-low heat or until the onions are tender and light brown in color.

Step 8: Add 1 tbsp of chopped fresh parsley, and stir for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step 9: Spoon the parsley mixture over the steaks and finish by covering the top halves of the rolls.

Step 10: Now, take the sandwiches and brush both sides with melted butter.

Step 11: Here is the trick. You need to heat up 2 skillets on medium-high flame. Place 1 sandwich at a time in the heated skillet.

Step 12: Place the second heated skillet on the top of the sandwich and gently press down on the top of the skillet to flatten the sandwich. Let cook for 4 minutes to 5 minutes on each side until both sides are crispy and golden brown.

Continue the procedure with the remaining sandwiches and serve.

How to Make Pan Con Bistec:

Most of the beef in Cuba are used for preparing their super traditional pan con bistec or Cuban pan sandwiches. Here is another process of preparing their special sandwich with the special homemade sauce.

I’ve prepared this over the grill. So, if you have difficulty cooking the first recipe, then try this method.

Ingredients we Need:

For the Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup of fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp of finely crushed red pepper
  • 2 tsp of minced garlic
  • 1 bunch of parsley, large stocky parts removed
  • ¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper

For the Sandwich:

  • 6 oz of skirt beef steak
  • 2 tbsp of finely minced garlic
  • 1 tsp of Kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp of freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ cup of yellow onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 12-inches Cuban bread

Methods of Preparing Step by Step:

Preparing the Sauce:

Step 1: In the bowl of the food processor, add ¾ cups of cilantro, ½ cup of EVOO, 1 tsp of crushed red pepper, parsley and 2 tsp of minced garlic.

Step 2: Process them until you get the smooth consistency from the sauce. The sauce will be chunky but that’s normal.

Step 3: Transfer the sauce in a bowl and set aside.

Preparing the Sandwich:

Step 1: Set the grill for preheating to medium-high heat.

Step 2: Slice the steak into ½ inch thick strips. You can do this procedure ahead of time and place them into the refrigerator.

Step 3: Sprinkle 2 tbsp of minced garlic, ½ tsp of freshly ground black pepper and 1 tsp of Kosher salt over the steak.

Step 4: Now, in another skillet, saute ½ cup of yellow onion.

Step 5: In the grill, place the steaks and cook to medium-rare.

Step 6: In a shallow plate mix the sautéed onions and cooked steak together. Top with mozzarella cheese.

Step 7: Halve the Cuban bread in horizontal order and toast lightly over the grill.

Step 8: Placing the steak, onion and mozzarella cheese filling on the bottom slice.

Step 9: Drizzle the prepared sauce generously; then top with the upper half.

Step 10: Place on the grill for a couple of minutes to allow the cheese to get melted.

Remove from heat and serve hot. The meaty bites of steaks with the homemade tangy sauce will fill your heart with full of flavors.

Conclusion:

The Cuban style steak sandwiches are full of flavors. The crispiness of sandwich bread in out and juicy steak inside makes the perfect collaboration of rightful texture.

Also, this can be a must-go dish for quick lunch, so tasty. I prepare them at least once a month. My mom and daughter love steak sandwiches a lot. Share this recipe with others and satisfy your appetite with something super tasty.
