Mexican Carne Con Papas Recipe

This Maxican papa con carne is worldwide popular now for its super gravy and tender meaty texture.

The traditional beef stew with potatoes tastes amazing not only because of using beef but also the balanced texture of vegetables. I prefer to always use Dutch oven when preparing this. So, let’s proceed to the recipe.

Carne Picada Stew Ingredients:

1 Tsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 ½ Lbs of Beef Stew Meat, Trimmed and Cut into 1-Inch Cubes

1 ½ Cups of Finely Chopped Red Onion

½ Cup of Finely Chopped Green Bell Pepper

½ Tsp of Kosher Salt

½ Tsp of Freshly Ground Black Pepper

2 Tsp of Garlic, Finely Minced

¼ Cup of Water

1 Tsp of Dried Oregano

1 Tsp of Paprika

⅛ Tsp of Ground Cumin

1 Bay Leaf, Crumbled

3 Cups of Low-Sodium Beef Broth

4 Cups of Potato, Peeled, Cubed and Baked (about 2 Pounds)

3 Tbsp of Raisins

3 Tbsp of Coarsely Chopped Pimiento-Stuffed Olives

2 Tbsp of Capers

How to Make Picadillo Con Papa Step by Step:

Step 1: Bring out a Dutch oven or heavy bottomed pan and coat finely with 1 tsp of extra virgin olive oil. I have used my non-stick cooking spray here. Keep the heat over medium-high.

Step 2: Add 1 ½ lbs of beef stew meats and stir for 2 minutes or until get browned.

Step 3: Now, add 1 ½ cup of finely chopped onion, ½ cup of finely chopped green bell pepper, ½ tsp of kosher salt, ½ tsp of ground black pepper, and 2 tsp of garlic. Saute the ingredients for 3 minutes to 5 minutes.

Step 4: Add 1⁄4 cup of water, 1 tsp of oregano, 1 tsp of paprika, 1/8 tsp of cumin, crumbled bay leaf, and 3 cups of beef broth. Bring them to a boil and cover the Dutch over. Also, reduce the heat to a simmer and allow to cook for 30 minutes.

Step 5: After 30 minutes, uncover and add the cooked potatoes, 3 tbsp of raisin, 3 tbsp of olives and 2 tbsp of capers.

Step 6: Cover again and cook in the medium heat over 20 minutes or until desired consistency.

When done, remove from heat and ladle the serving bowls hot. Enjoy with bread, jasmine rice, roasted broccoli, etc.

Mexican Picadillo Beef Recipe

In this recipe, I will prepare everything chopped. With ground beef, cubed potatoes, and spices the meal tastes awesome. Also, this is my favorite quick recipe whenever I feel like preparing it in a short time.

Also, picadillo can be perfect filling for quick tacos as well as gorditas! So, must try the recipe. Here is the ingredients list with crystal clear directions.

Ingredients We Need:

1 Tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1/2 Cup of Finely Chopped White Onion

2 Lbs of Ground Beef

1 Tbsp of Garlic Salt

1/2 Tbsp of Freshly Ground Black Pepper

4 Tomatoes, Finely Chopped

1 JalapeñO or Serrano, Finely Diced

½ Cup of Russet Potato or Yukon Gold Potatoes, Peeled and Finely Chopped

Methods of Preparing Molida Beef with Potatoes Step by Step:

Step 1: Bring out a large skillet and add 1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil over medium heat.

Step 2: Add ½ cup of chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes or until onions become translucent.

Step 3: In the skillet, now add 2 lbs of ground beef. Cook until get browned. I always use a potato masher to get the absolute smallest pieces of ground beef. There will be no big chunks left.

Step 4: Now, you need to drain off the excess moisture.

Step 5: One by one add chopped tomatoes, 1 tbsp of garlic salt, ½ tbsp. of black pepper, diced jalapeño, and ½ cup of russet potatoes.

Step 6: Reduce the heat to low and heat for 15 minutes more covering the skillet or until the potatoes are tender enough.

Step 7: Sprinkle some salt if needed.

Your dish is ready just less than 20 minutes. So, prepare this without any hassle. With tortilla this goes the best. If you don’t like it spicy then skip jalapeño.

Mexican Papas Asada Variations:

No recipes are too rigid to customize. Recipes I have described are authentic traditional recipes but you can change with healthier substitutes. Instead of beef, you can use turkey or ground bison.

It will reduce the calories and a healthier option. Instead of potatoes, you may add cauliflower. Though the taste won’t be the same, they are still tasty.

If you want it less spicy and more gravy, then you can always free to use heavy cream. For spicy lovers, add jalapeno peppers must. You can add more if you want more spicy.

Conclusion:

Here you have perfect authentic meals with lots of flavour. Never worry about sudden guests, if you have beef and potatoes in your fridge.

Cook with these recipes and I bet they will ask for the recipe. Keep exploring your cooking experience with Mexican dishes and bon appetit!
