Popeyes Mashed Potatoes Recipe

We all know about Popeyes and their special recipes. I have always been so curious about their secret recipes and tried for their special menu whenever I got time. Sometimes, it becomes so frustrating to keep failing again and again. Yet I didn’t give up, and I have succeeded in some recipes.

Today, I’m sharing Popeyes mashed potatoes recipe and Popeyes special gravy recipe with you guys, as they are a symbol of my success. I bet you can enjoy the appetizing flavor by following these recipes step by step.

Recipe of Popeyes Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are one of the best side dishes ever prepared that goes with any type of meal. You can easily prepare it at home, but when you want a top-quality dish, then you must go for Popeyes special mashed potatoes. You can even keep some of it in vacuum-sealed bags if you want to indulge yourself on the weekend. So, don’t waste your time looking for other recipes, grab the ingredients, and start preparing the special mashed potatoes.

Ingredients: 

  • 4 pounds of Yukon gold potatoes, cut into 3-inch pieces 
  • 8 garlic cloves, peeled and halved lengthwise 
  • 1 teaspoon of salt 
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter 
  • 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil 
  • 2 cups of milk 
  • 1 cup of heavy cream 
  • Salt, as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp. of freshly ground white pepper 

Directions:

Step 1: Take a medium saucepan, and fill the saucepan with water. Bring the water to boil over high heat. 

Step 2: Add sliced potatoes into the boiling water. Then gradually add garlic, salt, reducing the heat to a simmer. 

Step 3: Cover the saucepan with a lid then cook for 18-20 minutes, or until the potatoes, and garlic cloves can easily be pierced with a fork. 

Step 4: Now drain off the extra water, and return the potatoes to the saucepan, over high heat. Toss the potatoes on the stove for 2 minutes, just to dry up the moisture from potato slices.

Step 5: Transferring the potatoes in a large bowl, mash them with a wooden potato masher. 

Step 6: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Then add milk, heavy cream, including the extra-virgin olive oil. Stir the liquid mixture to get thicken. You can also use half-and-half as a substitute for milk and heavy cream.

Step 7: Now, add the mashed potatoes, whipping with a whisk for 5 minutes or to smooth. 

Step 8: Add garlic stirring in the mixture. A nice aroma comes from the dish. 

Step 9: When the consistency reaches to the puree, sprinkle some salt, and pepper for seasoning, as per taste. 

Remove from heat, then transfer to a casserole dish for serving. 

Popeyes Gravy Copycat Recipe:

This special gravy is one of the rich flavored juice foamed with chicken gizzard, ground meat, ground pork, chicken broth, and use of different spices. This recipe is especially for them where popeyes are not available. It has taken me 2 years to understand the real flavor, and what can be real ingredients.

After searching a lot, I have found the clue and experimented with this gravy. The usage of the chicken gizzard is very unexpected. Anyways, the process of preparing this Popeyes special gravy is as follows: 

Popeyes Gravy Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil 
  • 2 cups of chicken gizzard 
  • 2 tablespoon of minced green bell pepper 
  • 1/4 cup of ground beef 
  • 1/4 cup of ground pork 
  • 2 cups of water 
  • 14-ounce of beef broth 
  • 2 tablespoon of cornstarch 
  • 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour 
  • 2 teaspoon of milk 
  • 2 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar 
  • 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar 
  • 1 teaspoon of salt 
  • 1/2 teaspoon of coarse ground black pepper 
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper 
  • 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder 
  • 1/8 teaspoon of onion powder 
  • 1 dash of parsley flakes, dried 

Directions of Popeyes Gravy: 

 Step 1: Take a large saucepan. Add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, and heat to simmering for 2 minutes. 

Step 2: Sauté 2 cups of chicken gizzard in the oil for 5 to 7 minutes or until fully cooked. 

Step 3: Transfer the chicken gizzard to a shallow plate and let cool at room temperature. 

Step 4: When the gizzards are ready to handle, mince them finely. 

Step 5: In a glass bowl, add ground beef, and ground pork together, mixing them evenly by hands. 

Step 6: Then add minced green bell pepper to the meat mixture, and mix. 

Step 7: Add the meat-veg mixture to a saucepan with 14 Ounces chicken broth, and 2 cups water. 

Step 8: Quickly, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of flour in the broth and water. 

Step 9: Cover the saucepan with a lid, cooking for 10 minutes. 

Step 10: After uncovering, add the spices: 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 dash of dried parsley, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. 

Step 11: Lastly add the white wine vinegar. With the spices and ingredients, cook for 30 minutes more over low heat. When the gravy gets thicken. Remove from heat. 

Transfer the special gravy to a casserole dish, and serve. If you have ever been to Louisiana, don’t miss to go at Popeyes. And, must order their special Cajun gravy. I’m sure, you will be very proud of yourself after knowing that at home, you can prepare the exact gravy with almost similar taste.
