The Substitute Recipe:

There is another Zippy’s special item that is popular as well, Zippys chili moco. This is a main consisting of steamed rice, juicy hamburger steak topped with a fried egg. Some say it is better than Hawaiian chili recipe. Anyways, here is the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Ground beef chuck about 1 pound
  • Chopped onion about 1 cup
  • Water about 1/2 cup
  • Sliced mushrooms about 1/4 pound
  • Brown gravy about 12 ounces.
  • Eggs about 4
  • Cooked rice about 4 cups
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Take 1 pound of the ground beef chuck in a tray and separate into equal parts in order to make patties. From 1pound chuck, it is ideal to make 4 patties.

Step 2: Bring a frying pan and grease it using a cooking spray and keep the pan over medium-high heat.

Step 3: Now fry the patties for almost 6 minutes each side. The color of the patties has to be saggy brown insides but pink in the center.

Step 4: Insert an instant-read meat thermometer into the beef chuck patties to check if the inner temperature is at 140 degrees F or not. If the temperature doesn’t reach 140 degrees F, then cook for a while.

Step 5: When done, turn off the stove and transfer the patties to a plate.

Step 6: In that frying pan, into the remaining dripping from patties, add 1 cup of chopped onions and stir over medium heat.

Step 7: After 3-5 minutes, when onions are tender then add 1/4 pound of sliced mushroom.

Step 8: Cook the mushrooms for 5 minutes. You will notice the gravy texture of onion and mushroom mixture.

Step 9: Cook for another 5 minutes for the final flavor.

Step 10: Lessen the heat to simmer and carefully keep down the patties into the gravy mixture.

Step 11: Now fry the eggs in another frying pan. The specialty of this fried egg is the yolk. The yolk remains runny so when you cut it while having it spreads over your rice and patty.

You have cooked rice. Now, this is for four servings. So equally divide the rice into 4 plates. Place the patty on the top of the rice and the gravy. Now lastly, put the egg over the patty and garnish with fresh parsley.
