Turkish Bread Recipe

Turkish bread is loved all over the world with great demand because of its no kneading process. Hence, the bread is soft, fluffy, and complete with flavors.

From my childhood, I love this Turkish bread recipe because of its crystal clear process. I almost forgot about the recipe until my 6-years old son tells me to prepare ‘tukkis bread’ in his words. Anyways, let’s see the recipe. 

Turkish Pide Bread Recipe:

With proper ingredients and time, you can easily make it at home. Just be cautious with the temperature of the ingredients that can be confusing sometimes.  

Ingredients We Need:

  • 1 cup of warm milk
  • 1 cup of warm water 
  • 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp of brown sugar
  • ½ tsp of Kosher salt
  • 2 ¼ tsp of instant dry yeast
  • 1 large egg, Separate egg white and yolk
  • 4 ½ cup of all-purpose flour
  • Yogurt Egg Glaze
  • 1 tbsp of plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp of water
  • 2 tbsp of sesame seeds to top

How to Make Turkish Bread Pride Step by Step:

Step 1: First of all, take a large bowl. Pour 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of water, 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, 1 tsp of brown sugar, ½ tsp of Kosher salt, 2 ¼ tsp of instant dry yeast, and egg white.

Mix all the ingredients finely with a fork until they are smooth.

Step 2: In that bowl, add the flour in 3 batches plus mix them finely until the dough comes together clean-cheat. I prefer at first with a wooden spoon, then by hands

Step 3: Cover the large bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to rise.

Step 4: Now, you need to sprinkle your surface munificently with flour.

Step 5: Transfer the rested dough from the bowl to the flat surface and shape it into a boule.

Step 6: Then, cut the dough into 8 pieces lightly using a butter knife.

Step 7: Prepare a baking sheet lining it with parchment paper.

Step 8: Thus, place two of the dough balls on the baking sheet. Cover loosely with a plastic wrap again and let rise for 20 minutes or more.

Step 9: Meanwhile set the oven on preheating at the temperature of 400ºF

Step 10: Now, place another empty baking dish in the lower rack.

Step 11: Mix the egg yolk, yogurt, and water (at room temperature) in a small mixing bowl, and set it aside. The mixture is known as glaze.

Step 12: Brush the dough with some of the glazes and using your fingers, spread the dough into a circle with ½ inch thickness.

Step 13: Now, with fingers, make a notch on the dough about 1 inch from the edge to make a circle. Then with your fingers make slanting indentations in two different directions to make diamond shapes inside that circle.

Step 14: Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, repeat the exact procedure with the remaining 6 dough balls.

Step 15: When the oven is hot, uncover the prepared dough and make the notches again, topping with sesame seeds.

Step 16: Placing the baking sheet on the middle rack, fill the baking sheet on the lower rack with 2 cups of water, and close the oven door.

Step 17: Bake in the oven for 15-18 minutes until they look golden on top.

When done, cover the loaves with a damp paper towel. The steam of the bread with be locked in and your homemade Turkish bread will be soft and fleecy.
