Cracker Barrel Chicken and Rice Recipe

Till now, I have never heard of anyone who is not fond of Cracker Barrel’s dish. When I was young, my father took me on a date at Cracker Barrel. Cracker Barrel, the old country store still has maintained their tradition and about food items, they are just amazing as “old is gold”. I miss those childhood times and those moments are always inspiring to me. I have tried so many times to prepare the special chicken and rice of Cracker Barrel. I have failed about four times as the taste didn’t go exactly. In my fifth time, I am convinced. I have prepared something alike. Nowadays a lot of you guys are asking about the Cracker Barrel chicken and rice recipe. I have tried to prepare it with both crackpot and oven.

Cracker Barrel Saturday Chicken and Rice Recipe:

Every Saturday, Cracker Barrel prepares their special southern American recipes. Chicken and rice are one of them. So, with the name, the Saturday is added for its tastefulness. However, it must be exciting for you that you are going to prepare the famous Cracker Barrel chicken and rice. Don’t waste any time, grab the ingredients, and cook! I bet your family or friends will ask you to prepare this dish often. Let’s begin the recipe with an oven

Ingredients:

  • Long Grain Basmati rice about 2 cups
  • Diced Onion about 1 cup
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup about 1 can full
  • Cream of Chicken about 1 can full ( I like to use both, you can just use any of mushroom and chicken)
  • Chicken Gravy about 1 cup
  • Chicken Strips about 11/2 pounds.
  • Water about 4 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Directions:

Step 1: At first set the oven at #50 degrees F for preheating.

Step 2: Wash the long grain basmati rice underwater entirely. Rinse the rice twice or thrice times until the water gets clear.

Step 3: Take a saucepan and pour 4 cups of water into it. Start boiling the water. When the water is boiled, add 2 cups of washed rice into the saucepan and cook for not more than 10 minutes over medium-high heat.

Step 4: When the basmati rice is half cooked, uncover the lid adding 1 cup of diced onion into the rice and cook for another 20 minutes.

Step 5: After 20 minutes, the rice is cooked and remove the saucepan from heat. 

Step 6: Now take a large bowl, add one can of cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of cream of chicken, 1 cup of chicken gravy, a pinch of kosher salt, and sprinkle some pepper. 

Step 7: Mix all ingredients with a whisk.

Step 8: Add 11/2 pound of chicken strips and coat them well into the cream mixture.

Step 9: Take out the baking dish and grease it with vegetable oil or olive oil. 

Step 10: Place the cooked rice in the baking dish and spread the rice well so that it can fill the bottom layer of the baking dish.

Step 11: On top of the rice, set the cream mixture coated chicken strips. 

Step 12: Cover the baking dish with an aluminum foil paper.

Step 13: Put your baking dish into the preheated oven carefully. Don’t forget to wear cooking holders or else it may burn your hands.

Step 14: Start baking your most wanted chicken rice dish for approximately 45 minutes,

Step 15: After 45 minutes, check the chicken with an instant-read meat thermometer.

Step 16: The inner temperature of the chicken should be showed at 165 degrees F. If not then bake for another few minutes and keep checking.

Step 17: When done, remove the baking dish from the oven removing the foil paper.

Step 18: Transfer your dish to a large plate and serve.


You can serve the dish with your favorite drink and favorite side dishes. I usually serve it with roasted broccoli and beer.

Copycat Cracker Barrel Chicken and Rice recipe:

 If you have a crockpot or any kind of slow cooker, then making your chicken and rice can’t be easier. It takes longer but the time worth it. With a crockpot, your chicken seems to be read-made. No chance of burning your hands or no need to preheat the oven. Just place your chicken and cook. In this recipe, you can learn how to make cracker barrel gravy with special rice.

Ingredients:

  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts about 4 pieces
  • 1 Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 can of Cream of Chicken.
  • Dried Minced Onion about 1 tbsp. 
  • Vegetable oil about 2 tbsp.
  • Sesame oil about 1 tsp
  • Chopped garlic about 2 tsp
  • Chopped ginger about 1 tbsp.
  • Eggs about 2 pieces
  • 1 packet of pre-cooked chilled long grain basmati rice ( you can use of your choice)
  • Cooked diced ham of your choice (optional)
  • 1 tsp of Ground Black Pepper 

How to make Cracker Barrel chicken and rice:

Step 1: Take a bowl at first and add a full 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and 1 can of cream of chicken. Stir them together with a whisk.

Step 2: In the bowl, add 1 tbsp. of dried minced onion and sprinkle 1 tsp of ground black pepper and mix them.

Step 3: You have to season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper and place the chicken breasts into the crockpot or your slow cooker.

Step 4: Now spread the cream mixture all over the chicken with a spatula. 

Step 5: Cover the crockpot with a lid and turn it on at the low heat. The chicken takes about 4 to 6 hours to cook. If you use chicken strips or thin cut chicken breasts, then it should be cooked within 2 hours.

Step 6: By this time, cook your special rice. To do so, pour the vegetable oil and sesame oil into a skillet over medium heat.

Step 7: Add garlic and ginger as per the amount and stir them for 2 minutes.

Step 8: Put the eggs into the mixture and stir rapidly.

Step 9: Turning the heat into high, add chilled rice, and cook for 5-10 minutes.

Step 10: Before removing the skillet add the cooked ham and stir. 

When the chicken is completely cooked, place the chicken into a casserole dish and serve it with special rice.
