Bohemian Cafe Dumpling Recipe

We all know about the famous bohemian cafe dumpling. Won’t it be so good if you can make them at home? Here is the copycat recipe, you all must see and try. With simple pantry staples, you can make them. Never get bored with regular dishes, try them on.

Ingredients we Need:

5 cups of all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour

1 1/2 cups of whole milk, warm (not hot)

3 slices of white bread, finely cubed

2 tsp of active dry yeast

2 eggs, lightly beaten

1 tsp of sugar

1 tsp of sea salt

1 tsp of melted butter

1/2 tsp of baking powder

How to Make Bread Dumplings Step by Step?

Step 1:

Take out a small mixing bowl, and pour ½ cup of warm milk. Add 2 tsp of active dry yeast in the milk and stir to dissolve.

Step 2:

Add 1 tsp of sugar and mix finely with the milk-yeast mixture. Set the bowl aside.

Step 3:

In another mixing bowl (large one), add 2 cups of flour. I always sift my flour before adding them. It helps better with mixing.

Step 4:

Sprinkle ½ tsp of baking powder and mix with the flour.

Step 5:

In that bowl, where the eggs are beaten, add 1 tsp of sea salt. Any type of salt will go. I had sea salt in my pantry.

Step 6:

Now, add the egg salt mixture into the flour mixture along with the milk-yeast mixture. Mix them finely.

Step 7:

Add 1tsp of melted butter and with an electric mixer, mix finely.

Step 8:

In the half way of mixing, add the remaining 1 cup of warm milk. Mix until they form like a soft dough. The dough will be super sticky, no need to worry about that.

Step 9:

With a wet cloth, cover the dough and keep the bowl in a warm place. Allow the dough to rise for 1 hour.

Step 10:

After 1 hour, add the remaining 3 cups of flour and the bread cubes. With the electric mixer, mix them again until the dough comes out clean and smooth.

Step 11:

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead by hand. Divide the dough into 4 equal small doughs. The dough will be oblong in shape.

Step 12:

Lightly brush with melted butter. Again cover and let rise for another 1 hour in a warm place.

Step 13:

Bring a large sauce pan and fill the 2/3 of it with water. Bring the water to a boil.

Step 14:

Now, carefully lower the 4 oblong doughs into the boiling water. Cover and boil for 10 minutes.

Step 15:

After 10 minutes, uncover and turn. Cover again to allow them to boil for another 10 minutes.

When done, remove from heat and pick the yeast dumplings Czech up with a strainer spoon ladle. This homemade bread dumpling tastes so good and combines perfectly with any type of gravy.

Bohemian Cafe Gravy Recipe

We have learned about the bohemian bread dumpling recipe. There is a special bohemian gravy recipe too. You can have them with any type of gravy but I think the highest taste you get from the bohemian brown gravy. Isn’t it all exciting to have everything in Czech cuisine? Let’s jump to the recipe.

Ingredients we Need:

  • 4 Tbsps of beef fat or pork fat, or you can use reserved beef fat
  •  4 Tbsps of extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 Tbsps of all-purpose flour or whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups of reserved meat juices, or you can use the reserved juices with enough beef stock to equal 2 cups, if you don’t have enough meat juice.
  • 1 tsp of Kosher salt or to taste
  • ½ tsp of freshly ground black pepper or to taste
  • 1 Tbsp of unsalted butter, Optional

Methods of Preparing Brown Gravy Step by Step:

Step 1:

Take out a small saucepan and pour 4 tbsp of beef fat and 4 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil over high heat.

Step 2:

Heat for 30 seconds to 1minute until hot enough. Add 4 tbsp of all purpose flour in 3 batches, stirring continuously.

Step 3:

Reducing the heat to the medium flame, stir until the mixture turns into golden brown in color and the mixture smells nutty.

Step 4:

Now, pour ½ cup of the reserved meat juices and mix finely until the floured liquid is smooth.

Step 5:

pour the remaining 1 ½ cup of liquid. Bring the liquid to a boil and reduce the heat to simmer and continue cooking for 5 more minutes.

Step 6:

For getting a silky sheen, add 1 tbsp of butter, stirring finely.

Step 7:

Season the gravy with 1 tsp of kosher salt and ½ tsp of freshly ground black pepper. You can season as per your taste.
