Swedish Tea Ring Recipe

You have flour, egg, yeast at your pantry? Then preparing tea ring is not a big deal at all. Here is the list of ingredients and methods of preparing it.

Betty Crocker Yeast Rolls Ingredients:

1 Package or 3 Tsp of Active Dry Yeast

¼ Cup of Warm Water

1/3 Cup of Margarine

1/3 Cup of Sugar

1 Cup of Lukewarm Milk

½ Tsp of Kosher Salt

2 Eggs

4 Cups of All-Purpose Flour

Methods of Preparing Tea Ring Bread Step by Step:

Step 1: Take out a large bowl and dissolve 3 tsp of yeast in 1/4 cup of warm water.

Step 2: Now, in another bowl, add 1 cup of lukewarm milk, 1/3 cup of sugar, ½ tsp of kosher salt, 2 eggs, and 2 cups of flour. Whisk all together very finely using an electric mixer or hand mixer.

Step 3: Now, pour ½ of the mixture to the yeast mixture. Beat it until smooth and wait until the liquid absorbs the ½ mixture.

Step 4: Then add the remaining flour. Make sure you put the exact amount so that you get a firm and smooth dough.

Step 5: Lightly flour a surface and place the dough in order to knead. Knead the dough until smooth and super elastic. This will not take more than 5 minutes.

Step 6: Prepare a bowl, greasing lightly and place the dough into the greased bowl. Cover and let rise. Wait for 2 hours max, by this time the dough will be doubled.

Step 7: When done, then knead for a few minutes. Shape the dough to a rectangular (15×9 inches) shape.

Step 8: Place the shaped dough on a lightly floured surface and roll up tightly.

Step 9: In order to seal the edge pinch well so that there is no hole left.

Step 10: Stretch the roll to make a very even ring roll. When all the ring rolls are prepared, let betty crocker sweet roll dough rise again for 40 minutes.

Step 11: When done, set the oven temperature to 350 degrees F and timer for 20 minutes. Bake until it becomes golden brown.

Remove from oven and let cool. Spread the ring glaze, decorate with nuts or dry fruits. If you prepare this for an occasion then, I would highly suggest to chop dried apricots (1/2 cup), and ¼ cup of maraschino cherries. Then drain them on paper towels.

Filling variations:

In this dish the filling is so much liberal. You can literally make up anything and spread on the top. Here are some popular filling ideas.

2 Tbsp of Margarine or Butter, Soften at Room Temperature

½ Cup of Packed Brown Sugar

2 Tsp of Ground Cinnamon

½ Cup of Raisin

Over betty crocker tea ring, spread the margarine, sprinkle 1/2 cup of brown sugar in batches. Sprinkle 2 tsp of ground cinnamon and ½ cup of raisins.

Date filling:

1 Cup of Dates, Cut-up

1/3 Cup of Nuts, Roughly Chopped

To prepare this filling, take a small pan, and pour 1/3 cup of water with ¼ cup of sugar and 1 cup of dates. Cook over medium heat. When thickens, add 1/3 cup of nuts and stir. Let cool and pour.

This is the most commonly used in the Swedish tea ring. To prepare this glaze at home, we need-

1 Cup of Powdered Sugar

1 Tsp of Butter

In a small pan, add 1 tsp of butter with 1 tbsp of milk. Stir in 1 cup of powdered sugar with ½ tsp of vanilla. Heat over low until the glaze becomes smooth and reach to a desired consistency.

The main challenging part of this recipe, is to make the perfect doughs. The smoother and softer the dough will be; the bread will be tastier. Also, this doesn’t carry a lot of calories. Let your cooking experience blow up with short time desserts!
