Cracker Barrel Beef Stew Recipes

Cracker Barrel Beef Stew Recipes

For generations, the beef stew had been known as one of the most comforting foods, depending on the weather. The colder it gets; the form of stew is more ultimate. If the recipe is from Cracker barrel, then you will get the ultimate southern cozy dish. You can even serve it with noodles if you fancy.

There are quite some recipes that I want to talk about today besides the cracker barrel one. So, without any delay, let’s jump into some delicious cracker barrel beef stew recipes.

Cracker Barrel Beef Stew

The original Cracker Barrel beef stew is packed up with beef, of course, and some common veggies like potatoes, carrots, and some peas. This lively recipe is enough to make the couch warmed up for an evening football match. Let’s get into this cracker beef stew already.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of stewing beef, medium-sized chunks
  • 3 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 large-sized onion, chopped
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 5 carrots, cut into chunks
  • 4 cups of beef broth
  • 1/3 cup of tomato ketchup
  • 1 cup of peas
  • pinch of salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Directions for preparation step by step:

Step 1: Let’s get started with some mixing. Get a mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, some freshly ground pepper, and some salt to taste. Combine them well.

Step 2: Get the chunked beef. Toss them into the flour mixture and coat well.

Step 3: Get a large pot. Add 2 tbsp of vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high settings. Now, add the beef chunks. Add the rest of the flour as well. Stir it often. Don’t let the meat or flour burnt up. Brown the beef chunks in flour nicely. After that, remove the chunks from the pot and set them aside.

Step 4: Add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil into the pot and heat over medium settings. Now, add the chopped onion and saute it. Make sure to scrape up the browned remains of the meat from the pot.

Step 5: Get the beef chunks. Return them into the pot again. After that, add 5 chunked carrots and 4 chunked potatoes. Give it a good stir.

Step 6: Now, stir in 4 cups of beef broth and 1/3 cup of ketchup. Give it a good stir to combine all the cracker barrel ingredients.

Step 7: Let the pot simmer over low heat settings for 1 and 1/2 hours. Remember to stir it occasionally.

Step 8: Stir in 1 cup of peas just before taking off the pot. Adjust the seasoning to your taste. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Barbecued Beef Stew

This beef stew recipe is quite off-grid from the cracker barrel soup recipe but tastes delicious. This version includes corn pudding for extra flavor. I am going to use sirloin tips here, but feel free to choose for yourself. I might add a salad to complete the meal. Let’s get into this.

Ingredients:

  • 7 lb of stewing beef, medium-sized chunks
  • 2 tsp of kosher salt
  • 1 tsp of freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 6 medium-sized onions, minced
  • 24 oz. of beer
  • 1 cup+2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup of tomato ketchup
  • 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp of ground cumin
  • 2 tsp of dry mustard
  • 1 tsp of dry marjoram

For Corn Pudding:

  • 6 large-sized eggs
  • 2 can of creamed style corn, each 16 oz.
  • 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup of butter, melted
  • 3 cups of buttermilk
  • cracker crumbs from 20 crackers
  • 1 cup of cornmeal
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 3 cups of shredded cheddar

Directions for preparation step by step:

Step 1: Start with the oven. Preheat it to 325F.

Step 2: Get the beef chunks. Season them with kosher salt and ground pepper.

Step 3: Get a large pot. Heat enough oil to fry the beef chunks over high settings. Add the chunks in batches and fry till browned. It will take about 7 minutes. Set aside the chunks.

Step 4: Add the minced onions and cook till golden brown. Stir often.

Step 5: Get the beef chunks. Return them to the pot. Add in 24 oz of beer, 1 cup of cider vinegar, 1 cup of tomato ketchup, 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar, 3 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp of cumin, 2 tsp of mustard, and 1 tsp of marjoram. Give it a good stir and bring it to a boil. After that, turn off the heat, cover the lid, and off to the oven.

Step 6: Bake the stew for about 150 minutes, or until the meat is tender. The meat chunks will begin to fall apart. Take off the oven. Keep the oven turned on and preheat to 350F.

Step 7: Use a spoon to remove the meat and transfer it to a bowl. Skim off the excess fat. Almost like the cracker barrel soup, as in my note.

For the Corn Pudding:

Step 8: Take a large bowl. Beat the eggs and add 2 cans of cream style corn, 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper, 1/2 cup of butter, 3 cups of buttermilk, 20 cracker crumbs, 1 cup of cornmeal, 1 tsp of baking powder, and 1 tsp of baking soda. This beef stewed crackers combination is the real deal here. Combine them well. After that, stir in 3 cups of shredded cheddar.

Step 9: Get a baking dish, about 2-3 qt. Bake the pudding for around 45 minutes till the pudding is lightly browned. Get the pudding off the oven and set it aside to cool down and set up.

Step 10: Back to the beef. Place the beef chunks into a 10*14 pot. Spoon the pudding over the top and spread evenly. Off to the oven.

Step 11: Bake it for around 45-55 minutes until the pudding turns golden-brown. Take it off the oven. Serve and enjoy!

Conclusion

This ultimate southern Cracker Barrel beef stew is incomparable with the other southern stews. The off-grid one is can’t be neglected as well. Well, eating is believing, no? That’s right, compare yourself and let me know what you found out. Until then, don’t crack the barrels.
