Copycat French Onion Soup Recipe

Preparing French onion soup is pretty easy and if anyone has the recipe with proper instruction, it will be super easy to prepare. The first lesson you need to prepare this recipe is to keep patience.

It will take almost 30 minutes just to caramelize the onions. The whole time you need to keep stirring and be cautious, not to get your onions burnt.

Also, the onions should be thinly sliced, which makes a great texture. To slice onions, you can use a mandolin, it will reduce your work a bit. Here’s the ingredient list with proper directions.

Ingredients we Need:

2 Tbsp of Unsalted Butter

10 Cups of Finely Sliced White Onions (about 6 to 7 Large Onions)

1 Tbsp of Beef Base

8 Slices of Firm Bread

10 Cups of Low-Sodium Beef Broth

2 Tbsp of Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil

1 Tsp of Kosher Salt

1 1/2 Tsp of Garlic, Finely Chopped

1 Tsp of Ground Black Pepper

8 Tsp of Grated Parmesan Cheese

8 Tbsp of Grated Provolone Cheese or Slices

Methods of Preparing Apple Bees Soups Step by Step:

Step 1: Take out a large stockpot and heat 2 tbsp of unsalted butter and 2 tbsp of vegetable oil over medium flame.

Step 2: When the butter oil mixture is hot, add 10 cups of finely sliced onion. Saute the onions until browned and in order to get caramel color and not burnt, stir frequently. This will take a bit of time but keep patience.

Step 3: In the half way, add 1 tsp of kosher salt and stir.

Step 4: When the sliced onions are almost done and caramelized enough, add 1 ½ tsp of finely chopped garlic.

Step 5: Continue cooking the onion, garlic for 2 minutes more or until finely fragrant.

Step 6: Now, pour 10 cups of low-sodium beef broth (I have used my homemade one), 8 slices of beef base, and 1 tsp of freshly ground black pepper.

Step 7: In this phase, you can taste to adjust the salt. Sprinkle some if needed.

Step 8: Reducing the heat to very low, simmer for 40 minutes to 45 minutes.

When the soup is done, remove from heat and there is still a lot to tell about the serving style of this real classy soup.

First of all, preheat the oven to broil and ladle the prepared soup into ovenproof soup bowls (with this amount, I prepare 8). Gently place one slice of bread on the top of each bowl. Then sprinkle 1 tsp of Parmesan Cheese and 1 slice of Provolone cheese.

That’s how you are just one step left from enjoying the soup. Place the bowls under the preheat broiler and let stay for 5 minutes or more until the cheese melts and begins to brown. Remove carefully and serve!
