Hot Dog Recipes without Bun

Hot Dog Recipes without Bun

One of the main components of a hot dog is the bun. If your friends and family are like many out there, the bun may be their favorite part of the hot dog. I have to admit that even I love having some “bread” with any meat.

But today, since we are trying to avoid eating the buns, exactly, I found out a few ways to use low-carb options to copy those traditional grainy buns. In these hot dog recipes without bun, I will be using wraps low in carbs as a replacement.

Worry not, because these changes won’t be keeping you in the kitchen for too long. In fact, these recipes can be prepped and wrapped up in under an hour. Without further delay, let’s jump into the recipes.

Chili Dog Bake

This low-carb Chili Dog Bake is one of my favorite bunless hot dog recipes. Trust me, it will be a family favorite around your dinner table. The juicy beef hot dogs wrapped in tortillas smothered in hot dog sauce.

Last but not least, topped with shredded cheese for the cheesy goodness; that is what I call weekend memento.

I have made some easy-going substitutes to make the chili dog compatible with all kinds of diet. At first, I choose a good quality hot dog without those nitrates, then made a low carb hot dog bun substitute, which was a low-carb tortilla, and finally, tossed that canned chili and whipped up a savory low carb hot dog sauce. Let’s get into the recipe.

Ingredients:

QUICK HOT DOG SAUCE

  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 1/2 cup of non-sugar salsa
  • 2 tsp of chili powder
  • 2 tsp of cumin
  • 2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 2 tsp of onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp of kosher salt

HOT DOG WRAPS

  • 8 beef hot dogs, nitrate-free
  • 4 low carb wraps of tortilla, halved
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

Methods of Preparing Step by Step:

Step 1:

Off with the hot dogs without buns. Start with the quick hot dog sauce. To make the Quick Hot Dog Sauce add in 1 lb of ground beef, 1 cup of beef broth, 1/2 cup of non-sugary salsa,

2 tsp of chili powder, 2 tsp of cumin, 2 tsp of garlic powder, 2 tsp of onion powder, 1/2 tsp of salt into a sauce skillet and turn the burner on medium-high settings.

If you are not using lean ground meat, I would strongly suggest cooking and draining the ground beef at first, and then at that point, add the remainder of the spices and simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 2:

Cook the hot dog sauce for 10 to 15 minutes, mixing and breaking the ground meat the way it needs to be. Taste it and adjust the seasonings after it simmers.

Step 3:

Let the quick hot dog simmer a little bit more. Let’s get the wraps that are low carb alternative to hot dog bun. Cut 4 of those in half.

Step 5:

Now roll one hot dog up in each half of the wraps and set aside. Wait till the hot dog sauce is prepared.

Step 6:

Chili Dog Bake, assemble. Don’t wait for Capt. America to wrap up those hot dogs. Take one cup of hot dog sauce, add to the bottom of a baking dish, and spread evenly.

Step 7:

Place the wrapped up hot dogs around the hot dog sauce layer and top those with the remaining sauce. Now, spread the remainder as evenly as possible. Coat them thoroughly, which I would do.

Step 8:

Last but not least, drown the chili dog with shredded cheddar. Place them in a preheated oven at 350 F for 40 minutes.

Still waiting for the next step? Serve hot immediately. You have earned it. You can garnish it with onions, mustard, or even sauerkraut.

Chili Dog Casserole

Were you still surfing the net for hot dog ideas no bun recipes? Well, worry, not mates. I am here with another hot dog recipe. This turned out so good that you might not even know it was low carb!

After baking the hot dogs, I told myself, you know, you are something of a Jamie Oliver yourself. How good was this hot dog no bun? You won’t even remember there was a bun. Let’s jump into the recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 8 beef hot dogs, nitrate-free
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar
  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 large bell pepper
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 2 tsp of chili powder
  • 2 tsp of cumin
  • 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp of sugar substitute
  • 1/2 tsp of celery salt
  • 1 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp of tomato paste

Methods of Preparing Step by Step:

Step 1:

Let’s start with browning the meat. Combine the ground beef with 1 diced onion, 1 bell pepper, and 2 minced garlic cloves in a large frying pan. Saute until the beef is browned. Drain the fat.

Step 2:

Now, add 2 tsp of chili powder, 2 tsp of cumin, 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tbsp of sugar substitute, 1 cup of tomato sauce, and 1 tbsp of tomato paste. Add some water and simmer for around 30 minutes.

Step 3:

Take the chili off and transfer it to the immersion blender to chop into small pieces. Process the chili until they are very small in pieces.

Step 4:

Place the hot dogs on a casserole dish. Spread it with chili. Now, remember one thing here, as we are about to bake. If the hot dogs are straight from fridges, don’t forget to increase the baking time.

Spread 1 cup of shredded cheddar over chili. If any onions are left, spread them too.

Step 5:

Place them into the preheated oven at 400F for about 15-20 minutes.

Serve and spread happiness. Try to find other substitute for hot dogs. Bon Appetit!

Conclusion:

That’s all for hot dog no bun recipes, folks. Try both to get to the fullest. Adios.
